We’re Town Farm Tonics
We’re Carissa and Adam, a husband-and-wife team making small-batch herbal tonics. We're based in our hometown Westport, MA, and we produce everything in Warren, RI at Hope & Main. We’re a family-run business now in our sixth year (!!), and you can find our products in over 160 stores across New England. The stores you'll find our tonics in are a lot like our farm stand - indepedently owned, focused on products made with integrity. Everywhere from farm stores to large co-ops carry our products, and we're very proud of our retail partners!
As a husband-and-wife team, we've always believed that caring for ourselves and those we love is an act of empowerment. It's what brought me (Carissa) to herbalism, and my husband Adam to working with the land. Now, many years, two kiddos, an herbal business, and a farm later... here we are, combining a love of land, plants, health & people!
After Peace Corps service in 2016, I began studying herbalism. In Fiji, where I served, I was inspired by the way traditional herbalism was so naturally integrated into every day life, and the depth of knowledge people held about the wild plants around them. When I began my studies back home at Farmacy Herbs, I quickly learned that herbal formulas work best when people enjoy them—then the follow-through comes naturally! Meanwhile, Adam worked in the local food system, connecting farms to schools. The same theme emerged: students who enjoyed produce from their classroom gardens were more likely to choose fresh foods in the cafeteria. Profound change begins with small steps—and often, with delight! Light bulbs went off, and Town Farm Tonics—our shared passion project—was born.
Our functional herbal concentrates are our offering to you: an opportunity to seek health and happiness with each spoonful. We envision our tonics adding more good to your life and to those you share them with. A spoonful of Elderberry Syrup to keep you well through the holidays, or a splash of Fire Cider to ignite your salad dressing with healthy flavor. We promise our creations will always be made by us, with thoughtful recipes that gently support your health through daily enjoyment. As functional foods, our creations are tonics that you drink, eat, and cook with. They will always be made from whole ingredients and traditional methods. Just care, love, and good intentions.
What We Make
- Fire Cider: our spicy, tangy herbal vinegar tonic, great for clearing congestion or boosting flavor in a whole lot of culinary ways
- Elderberry Syrup: sweet and tangy, made with local honey and herbs for immune support
- Elderberry Lemonade Mix: a hot or cold drink concentrate, great for kids & adults alike
- Tulsi Lime Herbal Electrolyte Mix: natural hydration made from real ingredients - just add a splash to water or seltzer
- Tea blends: made to sip easily & support wellness
And Berry Hill Farm?
Berry Hill Farm is our family’s farm in Westport, MA, right on the Dartmouth, MA line at 770 Pine Hill Road. and it’s a separate business from the tonics. This historic property has been a staple farm in our community since 1952, established by the Pierce Family. We are thrilled to have assumed ownership in 2023 by a competitive application process with our town's land trust.
While Berry Hill and Town Farm Tonics are separate businesses, they are related. Let's call them sisters, since they both feel like our children at times! As we expand our farm, we intend on growing some of the herbal ingredients that we use for Town Farm Tonic's products. We will also eventually have seasonal, micro-batch farm-souced products. But all of our tonics are made in a commercial kitchen at Hope & Main in Warren, RI, not on the farm.
